Story of our School
Beckwith Public School is the one and only public school in Beckwith Township. We are proud of our history which is a coming together of 11 rural school houses scattered across the township.

Every September, Beckwith students celebrate their history by participating in a Rural School Fair. In rural school teams, students take part in running races, egg-on-a-spoon and sack races. The school and the township work closely together to organize and sponsor the Rural School Fair. The school-township partnership began many years ago when Beckwith Township won the battle for the coveted new elementary school to serve Carleton Place and surrounding area. Beckwith Public School was opened in November 1989. The township and the residents of Beckwith through the fundraising committee paid $282,000 to get the gym build twice the size of the original plan with extra storage. The township secured the 20 acres site and gave it to the school board. The township purchased the land from Mr. Norman McDiarmid in the amount of $5,000.

Presently Beckwith Public School is home to over 50 staff and 570 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Our school is full of modern technology such as iPads, SMART Boards, and laptops in every classroom. Our newly-renovated library or ‘learning commons’ is equipped with a Lego wall, large screen television,  comfortable seating, and a Tower Garden. We also believe in outdoor learning. Our Kindergarten students spend extra time outdoors every day. Our large school yard is filled with a play structure, a fitness centre, 2 soccer fields, a ball diamond and even a cross country ski trail. We are a stone’s throw from the Beckwith Township Recreation Centre. Classes walk along the pathway to the recreation centre to take part in skating and indoor soccer, and to play in the splash pad and on the large play structure. We offer two French programs at Beckwith: a Regular French Program and an Immersion French Program. Students in the Regular French Program have 40 minutes of French instruction per day. Students in the Immersion French Program spend half of their school day, 150 minutes, in a French environment learning French, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, Drama, Dance, and Visual Arts. We also have a Music Teacher on staff who works with students in grades 1 to 6.

When students graduate from Beckwith Public School, they attend Carleton Place High School for grades seven to twelve. Our mascot is the bulldog. Beckwith Bulldogs are proud of their school. We invite you to come for a visit to learn more about how we can work together to meet the educational goals of your family.
